Dad, wasn’t that my idea?

At the beginning of 2024, we are launching the Details blog!!!!

In this space, you will find many ‘informal’ updates about this project. But first, we feel it’s important to take a step back to when Details first began its journey! The idea dates back several years… I often lost myself during my life watching clouds but also the stains on tiles and floors in the bathrooms I’ve lived in since I was a child. And of course, peeling walls, oil stains on asphalt, hidden faces in faucets and manholes. This ‘fantastical’ and surreal vision of reality has always brightened my days and allowed me to experience reality in an extraordinary way. A few years ago, while taking my children to preschool, I began photographing some stains – printing the photos – and drawing/painting on them. Mostly whales!! A few years later, my son Emiliano started – unbeknownst to me – doodling digitally on the photos directly on my phone. That’s when the idea of digitally drawing on stains was born, and after much mental deliberation and graphic experiments, Details began to take shape, evolving into an artistic project in 2023.

Acknowledgements

I would like to publicly thank Emiliano, who keeps repeating, ‘Dad, wasn’t that my idea??’ Know, my son, that I always jot down all your brilliant ideas in my ‘dream notebook’ and I look forward to growing up so we can bring them to life together!!!

I would like to thank the associations, festivals, and organizations that hosted the beginnings of Details in 2023 and allowed this project to grow… which I believe will soon reach its final form! Step by step, the ideas become clearer, and the experiments become more concrete.
First and foremost, thank you to the Mirabilia Festival and the entire Ideagorà team, who always support my quirky ideas!!!!
Thanks to the fantastic staff at Teatro Pim Off in Milan for the ‘shock therapy’ – spending a week in the degraded outskirts of Milan truly helped us understand the social and visionary potential of this project! It gave great meaning to our ‘little drawings.’
Thank you to Centro di Palmetta, Indisciplinarte Terni, and Cura Umbria for giving us the chance to make giant leaps during the 15-day residency in Terni… and for granting us the artistic privilege of dedicating ourselves to the ‘invisible’!!!!
A special, super thank you goes to Caterina Moroni, the Details tutor. The phone discussions, artistic exchanges, and always-perfect words and phrases have added, and continue to add, an extra touch to simple ideas.
Along with me, Luigi, this project includes Fabrizio Garnero… who, behind the scenes, handles all the technological aspects related to this site, QR codes, video animations, etc., and with his ideas manages to turn all our drawings into ‘wonder.’ In short, he does it all, and without him, this project would be terrible!!!
Dan Solo, the amazing musician and composer who scores the video creations… and more… that we are gradually producing.

Finally… in the course of 2023, Pīnar Bekaroglu joined the artistic staff… so, for better or for worse, I’m no longer alone in creating the drawings… and you might even have to learn Turkish to read our upcoming articles!!!!
