HANNOVER

THE DANCE OF THE GODS

From July 07 to 27, 2025 Details is the guest of the wonderful Herrenhausen Garden in Hanover at the Kleines Fest 2025.

Details is a site-specific project that blends visual arts, technology and urban theater to renew reality, transforming it into potential works of art in an open-air museum project.
Details is designed to exercise everyday wonder, create connections and spaces through multiple artistic languages.

Usually with Details we redevelop cracks in walls, spots on the sidewalk or old doorways to bring imagination and fantasy back into the grayness of our cities, into abandoned or neglected places.
Here in Hanover for the first time we are taking this project out of Italy in a completely different version: we have been entrusted with the task of giving a new look to all the beautiful classical statues in this garden!

GARDEN PARTY!

What happens at night when the garden is empty? Maybe these classical statues, these Deities, these heroes and heroines… are perhaps having a garden party? A garden party?

A “feast of the Gods” where anything is possible, where you can dance without limits, where you can find plenty of food but also where you can experience all kinds of pleasure, licit and illicit!!!
A feast for everyone, without gender differences, without boundaries, without judgments… just as a garden paradise should be !

In these statues, visitors will catch many of the classic characteristics and references of the gods depicted… but also perhaps reflect on the merits and flaws of our contemporary society.
Discover the macro and micro stories of each statue during this crazy garden party! The project gives the Baroque garden a new dimension, a poetic exploration that mixes humor, satire and play.
An explosion of colors that invites you to discover the garden statues in a unique way.

Europe
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Europe

Europa is a young backpacker, educated and independent. Few clothes in her backpack, but practical for different occasions: from hiking to garden parties. She enjoys traveling the world and learning about different cultures. In one hand she holds a meat skewer – Şiş kebabı – a symbol of the multiculturalism of our tables. In the other hand is a mirror reflecting the real situation of many “travelers” less fortunate than her.

Venus and Love
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Venus and Love

You will meet 3 pictures of Venus in this garden, look them up to see the differences. Here Venus is an “elegant woman” at the garden party. She is trying to protect a dirty, frightened child standing next to her. Perhaps it is a war refugee or a small immigrant, arrived by sea as the dangerous fish at her feet suggests. Will the arrival of this child upset the balance of the party?

Bacchus
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Bacchus

At a festival of the gods, alcohol is certainly not to be missed, and who better than the God Bacchus to take care of supplying everyone with good living? Have you already seen the large vase filled with grapes from which he supplies himself? Look for the vase of Autumn !!!

Hercules with the lion
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Hercules with the lion

The search for “pleasure” at such a party has no limits. Walking through the garden you may encounter several more or less lawful “temptations.” In this statue we admire Hercules in a sailor version!!! Hercules, the quintessential strong hero, is waiting to “lure” some customers to offer his services. Watch him in action in the statue right next door….

Hercules with the bull

Hercules grappling with the pleasures of the flesh. As the quintessential strong hero…even in the sexual sphere he has very decisive ways!!!

Venus Medici

Venus Medici

You will encounter 3 images of Venus in this garden, look them up to see the differences. Surely this does not look like a holiday suitable for little ones, so our Venus becomes in this statue a baby sitter or rather an out-of-town nanny in the service of some rich family. The child by her side reminds you of someone???

Thalia
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Thalia

The muse Talia embodies the art of theater. A fitting allusion to the royal family, which loved theater in Herrenhausen and brought theater companies from Italy and France to Hanover for guest performances. Talia was also considered the patroness of all theaters, so she was the patroness of the famous new opera house in Hanover and also of the Herrenhausen Garden Theater. She is for all intents and purposes the host of this Garden party…and so she shows all her charm and histrionic class.

America
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

America

A Wonder Woman belonging to American Indians or Central Americans. A strong woman fighting for her rights probably in danger. Normally at her feet we should find an alligator or a lizard…but here she looks rather like a big rat with a very devious human face. Does it remind you of someone? Will there be any connection with the child in the Venus Medici statue nearby?

Juno
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Juno

Juno the Mother Goddess, Queen of the Gods and of marriage. She is the chef cook of the feast, and having exceptional diners the food must also be up to par. Juno therefore prepares to cook her famous “Roast Stuffed Peacock.”

Fall

Between Chef Juno, beer and now wine… we are right in the middle of the “food area” of the party. The vases of the four seasons of the year and life. This brimming vase of grapes is a symbol of cheerfulness and enjoying pleasures. Have you met the sommelier Bacchus walking around the park yet?

Pluto and Proserpine
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Pluto and Proserpine

You are in the center of the garden in the middle of the dance floor!!! Here that the wildest dances take place…the dances of the gods!!! Amidst red-checked white picnic tablecloths, Pluto and Proserpine embrace each other in a fiery, unrestrained dance. Pluto king of the underworld, as seen even by the decorations on his shirt, and Proserpina beautiful “hippye” goddess of fertility. What are they dancing to? A very famous ballad by Leonard Cohen: Dance with me to the end of love.(LINK)

Pan and Syringe

You are in the center of the garden in the middle of the dance floor!!! Here that the wildest dances take place…the dances of the Gods!!! Scene originally taken from Ovid’s “Metamorphoses”…here reimagined in a more “contemporary” Quentin Tarantino way. We see the God Pan and the nymph Sirinx intent on dancing a twist like John Travolta and Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction!!!!(LINK)

Water
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Water

Vessels of the elements, in this case water. But more than water here is all the scent of the Mediterranean Sea. For us, this vase is a tribute to the many seafood restaurants in Southern Italy during the 1980s. House specialty: Spaghetti with seafood. And unfailing in the middle of the restaurant is the aquarium with fish…and in this case even a God Neptune diver!!!

Earth
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Earth

Vase dedicated to the earth element and agricultural production…in particular this is a lush BIODYNAMIC vase!!! Biodynamic agriculture is a set of agricultural practices inspired by the theories of Rudolf Steiner. The main objectives of biodynamics can be summarized in the following points: maintenance of plant and animal biodiversity and soil fertility, with particular regard for the nutrients already present in them.Protection of plant health and creation of an agricultural system capable of defending itself as much as possible independently from the onset of pests and diseases; obtaining agricultural products with high nutritional value, indispensable for a healthy and balanced diet.
On a biodynamic farm, the succession of various processes is marked by the lunar calendar, and in fact at the very center of the vase we see Atlas in a tutu supporting the full moon is intent on a propriziatory dance.

Naiad
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Naiad

Originally Naiads watched over lakes, rivers, streams. In ancient Greece, “Naiad” means “stream” “flowing water”…in this festival, however, flowing are rivers of beer and so we see our Naiad in typical Bavarian attire worthy of Oktoberfest!!!!

Mercury and Psyche

Mercury and Psyche

You are in the center of the garden in the middle of the dance floor!!! Here that the wildest dances are consumed… the dances of the Gods!!! But In the middle of the dance floor there are those, however, who take advantage of it for other more extreme activities. Mercury, the messenger of the Gods, and the beautiful Psyche here in Gothic Dark version dabble in sexual practices such as “spanking” and “bondage.” In reality, this statue would represent the moment when Mercury lifts Psyche from the earth to carry her through the air to Olympus where she can finally marry Cupid, God of Love.

A vessel full of bombs, spears, trenches and helmets to reflect the current political situation with various war conflicts scattered around the world. Meleager
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Meleager

Meleager is a wealthy young man featured in this backyard picnic. He is a character from Greek mythology, turns out in the Argonauts’ expedition. He is the one who inflicts the fatal blow on the calydonian boar, as we also see from the decorations on his shirt. Meleager is in love with the beautiful Atalanta – a statue by his side. And in fact it is to her that Meleager gives the head of the slain animal.

Heroine of Greek mythology, known for her hunting skills. A charming and virtuous woman, she was always very confident and never bent to the will of men. At this party she is elegantly presented in country style.

Saturn
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Saturn

Saturn is the God of Time, so he also offers partygoers a way to transform their perception of time, thanks to not-so-legal substances. Our Saturn dresses tight and psychedelic, and with his big hands he DJs house-techno music. Saturn also represents the age of gold-or rather of banknotes as seen by the pile of money under the hourglass (filled with small doses of a white powder).

\
Melpomene
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Melpomene

Melpomene, the muse of tragedy, would be a perfect contrast to the figure of Thalia on the other side of the garden. Melpomene helps overcome misfortune and suffering through her singing and transfers new strength to people’s needy spirits. Our Melpomene, however, is meant to be a tribute to the famous painting “La Liberté guidant le peuple” by French painter Eugène Delacroix. You can see a detail of the original painting inside the brooch she wears on her chest. Fighting for freedom and one’s ideals is important…but it is also important to wear makeup to go to a party…!!!!!!!

Venus while bathing
Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

Venus while bathing

Hard to believe that this statue is really “Venus,” her suffering face does not reflect the classical canon of the beautiful goddess. The fact is that this woman is trying to hide the violence she has suffered, perhaps at home. Her long hair hides a large hematoma, and her ankle hurts. During the garden party she takes refuge in the bathroom, away from prying eyes, to check her injuries.

Flora

Flora is the “queen of the party”–perfectly at home in the midst of this garden party. She is also the symbol of youth and the pleasures of life.
